Still one of my favorite hotels, the venerable 100-year-old Metropole Hotel in Hanoi. It was recently bought by a Vietnamese company, yet still exudes its French history. Now unaffordable to stay for the non-elite (ie, me), one can still grab a gin and tonic by the poolside Bamboo bar.
